I love stuff like this. The colors are almost like pastel, smooth and delicious. Why is it that I am always describing art in terms of food? Not sure, but I think it gets my point across quite well. I was attracted to this artist on etsy, Dilkabear because I just have a thing for stylized work like this. I also have a respect and interest in anything geisha, so this drew my attention further. I have been doing a lot of reading up on the art of being a geisha, because I was leaning towards making geisha inspired dolls. One must put any bad connotations aside, because a lot of it is undeserved and misplaced. Geisha originally began as men in the arts, and quickly transformed to women geisha who outnumbered the geisha men. Anyone who dedicates their life to the arts gets awesome points and respect in my book. Do comment if you agree or differ in opinion. :)
Back to the wonderful artist Dilkabear! You must check out her shop, she does her own hard-copy original work, but also provides accessible art in digital format. I LOVE this too, since, art-on-demand means more paper is being saved and each print she makes is just for you, one of a kind (in the limited series provided). Really cute, almost sad illustrations of child-like-people. There is something whimsical about these illustrations and the creaminess of the colors just draws me in. I’m a cartoon girl, so what can I say?
She also has a flickr account you can visit here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dilkathebear/
