The night before our big Boston snow storm I got to sneak in a few hours at the pottery studio. Granted, I spent 2.5 hours cleaning up and organizing the glaze room because I just couldn’t help myself –I made new glaze labels! I saved about 30 minutes to throw on some black mason stain for my mask and quick, sketchy cups.
I have been wanting to make masks for quite a number of months now, probably since early last year. Here is my first attempt at a ceramic mask.
Found this gorgeous work of ceramic art over on ShareSomeCandy. The artist is Yuri Fukuda. I just love imagining how this functional bit of artwork is created. It’s so visually satisfying and frankly, I just want to touch it. I might even stick pencils in it… or fill it with sand and light incense in it. Getting exciting just thinking about it…
Practice, practice! Just playing around with a new clay head I shaped… I like painting and drawing on the face the best. That’s when it starts to have more of a character (or caricature about it).
Many more, slab-built, clay houses.
